The Sweet Tooth Fairy

My tastebuds were feeling bored, craving something delightfully sweet. Trying to do everything the right, healthy way, especially to look decent in a bathing suit for the summer. I was crying inside for something different, something authentic, something to satiate my cravings and drive my taste buds crazy. Getting out of Antigravity Fitness and seeing all of the beautiful cake displays in the windows right next door and people lined up waiting outside for a nice treat, but feeling scared to gain the calories I worked off, was driving me crazy.  Finally after 4 months of classes, the sweet tooth fairy must have sprinkled some pixie dust in the air!

So I decided to take the plunge and walk over to Shyndigz after class.  I didn’t want to wait to be seated in the restaurant, since it was sooo busy, (probably because it’s the ONLY dessert restaurant in Richmond, Va,) so thankful to brilliant convenience, they have a Shyndigz TO GO right next door!

When I walked in, the ambiance was very shabby and chic. I was surprised by how enormous the slices of cakes were and that they sell fresh marinades, jams and even craft beer and wine there.  Perfect for a late night snack if you are going to indulge. The customer service was awesome, as I had a whole bunch of questions on what to get and the employees were very thorough with guiding me with my decision.

I ended up walking out with two desserts, a slice of A Shyndigz favorite, the infamous Fresh Fruit cake that “put Shyndigz in business”

This cake is a vanilla cake layered with seasonal fruit, kiwi, strawberries, blackberries and pineapple topped with cream cheese frosting.

I also ordered a “limited time only” specialty slice of cake from the menu, The Butterfinger cake, a peanut butter mousse cake, with bits of Butterfinger pieces topped and layered with a Chocolate Buttercream icing!

I must say they were both excellent choices, but if you are looking for something more refreshing, light and perfect for the Springtime, definitely try the fruit cake, which pairs nicely with a Pinot Grigio or perhaps, A Purple Haze, a raspberry wheat beer.

With at least 20 dessert menu items to choose from and their ever-evolving menu of new specialty desserts perfect for each season, I am sure you will find something you love. Be sure to try one of their 8 classics on the menu… Salted Chocolate Caramel Cake, Fresh Fruit Cake, Key Lime Pie, Cobbler, Pecan Streusel Bread Pudding, Creme Brulee, Kitchen Sink Pie, and Peanut Butter Pie!  You won’t be disappointed!

Where else can you go in Richmond, Va late on a week night for freshly made-from-scratch desserts and drinks.  They are open Wednesday 4 to 10 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 4 to 11 p.m.; Saturday 3 to 11 p.m.

Oh and Luck Be a Lady on Thursday night! If you are looking for a new social hangout, stop by 1903 W. Cary Street. What’s a sweeter spot to catch up with your girlfriends for a date night when you can take advantage of their special: “Buy 2 get 1 free desserts and $5 pints of Sangria from 4 to 11 p.m.”
